Kate DiCamillo is the author of “The Magician’s Elephant,” a New York Times bestseller; “The Tale of Despereaux,” awarded the Newbery Medal; “Because of Winn-Dixie,” a Newbery Honor book; and six books starring Mercy Watson, including the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book “Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride.”
She shares writing credit on her Geisel winning easy reader series “Bink and Gollie” with Allison McGhee.
The award presentation and speech by DiCamillo will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is free and open to the public but requires advance registration by May 27 at lib.umn.edu/about/kerlan
Books will be available for purchase at the event. Attendees may bring one book from home for every one of Kate DiCamillo’s books purchased from the Red Balloon Bookshop.
